John Gainer, President of the Glenville High School Alumni Association, is pleased to announce that the association’s scholarship committee recently awarded scholarships to six very deserving Gilmer County High School senior applicants. The following students are recipients of this year’s scholarships:

                                                                            Marsha Benson         $1,000         to attend Fairmont State University

                                                                            Sonja Meadows        $3,500         to attend Glenville State College

                                                                            Ashley Moss             $1,500         to attend Glenville State College

                                                                            Kristan Robinson      $3,000        to attend Glenville State College

                                                                            Kevin Smith             $1,500        to attend Glenville State College

                                                                            Brittany Weaver       $3,000         to attend Glenville State College

The scholarships were awarded based on the students’ financial need, academic achievement and leadership. Since its inception in 1999, the Glenville High School Alumni Association Scholarship Program has awarded a total of $98,000 to deserving Gilmer County High School students to help further their education.

In addition, the GHSAA Scholarship Committee is currently reviewing scholarship renewal requests of four past scholarship recipients.

This year’s scholarships were formally presented to the recipients at the recent Gilmer County High School Awards ceremony by the GHSAA Scholarship Committee Treasurer, Jesse Huff.

Ms. Julia Murin Lee, Scholarship Committee Chairperson, stated that she was very impressed with the caliber of this year’s students and looks forward to supporting next year’s applicants.
