Glenville High School Students, Teachers Excited Over New Building

Most of Glenville's students and teachers are highly elated over the new Glenville school building, and are rapidly becoming adjusted to their new and pleasant working conditions.  In comparing school here to that held at "The Poor Farm" the past two and one-half years, students have this to say:

"I like the new building just fine, but I don't like the water." -- Lane Smith

"I like the new building because you don't have to go out in the weather every time you turn around." -- Maureen McFerrin

"The thing I like best is my nice big room." -- Mrs. Miller

"I miss running between cabins to classes." -- Bill Gainer

"I like the new building because it is closer to town." -- Edmund Esposito

"The new building is wonderful and like sitting on top of the world." -- Miss Woodford

"I like the new high school just fine, but I think there should be a longer lunch period." -- Jim Wiant

"I like the new building because you have a lot more elbow room." -- Tom Reaser

"It is nice to be here and have plenty of room to conduct classes." -- Mrs. Summers

"I like being under one roof, having a gymnasium for the first time in the history of the school, and I love my room." -- Mrs. Murphy

"I like the new building because you don't have to walk so far between classes." -- Mary Nocida

"I like it here because we are all together." -- Douglas Jones

"I like the new building because you don't have to wade through the mud." -- Charles Stump

"I liked the "poor Farm" better because there wasn't as much class." -- Jack Brannon

Building Moved; To Be Lunch Room

Following a week's delay caused by low-hanging utility wires, a 44' x 23' frame building, formerly used as a fifth grade home room, was moved Sept. 18 from Linn St. to its new location behind the elementary wing of the new Glenville school building, where the structure will be used for a hot lunch center for grade and high school students.

Glenville townspeople, headed by Dr. W.T. Smith, donated $1000 for the project.  A 14' x 44' kitchen and storage room was added to the building which was moved to its new location by the Ace Moving Company of Charleston.

Peggy Brown Student President

Peggy Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waitman Brown of Glenville has moved from the office of vice-president which she held last year to president of the student council for 1957-58.  Bill Gainer will hold the post of vice-president and Martha Hall will be the new treasurer while Alice Davis will occupy the position of secretary.  In a recent election Jimmy Wiant was elected student council member-at-large.

The first meeting was held Wednesday, September 11 in room 205.  Council members and classes they represent are:  Tommy Campbell, Dick White, seventh grade; Jackie Moore, "Butch" Brown, eighth grade; Rebecca Luzader, Nick Murin, ninth grade; Tommy Reaser, Mike Reed, tenth grade; Alice Davis, Bill Gainer, eleventh grade; Martha Hall, Harry Orendorff, Jimmy Wiant, Peggy Brown, twelfth grade.

A Forward Step

A forward step that can conceivably mean much to Glenville high school was taken here recently when an Alumni organization was formed with the idea in mind of enrolling every alumnus since the first graduating class in 1930 in an active body, not only to provide worthwhile things for the school, but to knit closer together those students who are still loyal to their alma mater.

Students with diploma in hand can now look forward to belonging to an alumni organization, which, we hope sincerely, will have the best interests of the school at heart and will work with unselfish zeal with that purpose in mind.

The Alumni, with a capable leader, Dick Riddle, at the helm can work wonders in many ways.
